Since it was founded in 1991, the
Oslo String Quartet has established
itself as one of the leading chamber
music ensembles in Scandinavia. It
has achieved international acclaim
through its concert tours and nine
recordings as well as their constant championing of the Nordic repertoire.
The OSQ made their New York debut in Carnegie Hall in January 2005
and they have visited the Wigmore Hall regularly since 1998. A number
of concert tours have been given all over Europe visiting such as
the Delft Chamber Music Festival, Internationales Streich Quartet
Festival Dortmund and the Orlando Festival as well as all major
Norwegian music festivals.
The Quartets wide-ranging repertoire list spans from the
classics (including all of Beethovens string quartets) to
contemporary music - of which they have given a number of premiere
performances. Quite unique are their programs with self-arranged
versions of music from practically speaking all genres, including
pop, jazz, opera and film music.
Over the years nine recordings have been made. The two last ones were released on the German record label CPO in the
fall of 2003. In addition, the Quartet has recently released a collection of
popular tunes arranged for the quartet by their own cellist, Øystein Sonstad. Read whole article
