Øystein Sonstad
was born in 1970 in Stjørdal. After joining
the first batch of students at Kåre Opdals
"Lørdagsskolen" in Trondheim, he studied
with Aage Kvalbein in Oslo and at the
Royal Northern College of Music in
Manchester where he received the
Leonard Rose Award. He has performed
with the leading orchestras in Norway
and won first price in "Prinsesse Astrids Musikkpris" and in "VG's Soloist
Competition". Øystein Sonstad is a founding member of the Oslo String
Quartet. He is principal cellist in the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and was principal
cellist in the Norwegian Broadcasting Orchestra
1997-2003. Sonstad is the arranger of the Oslo String Quartet's crossover
repertoire, as well as classical and opera arrangements.
