BIG NEWS! We have just launched our very own recording label!
With the launch of the OSQ label, we reveal our concept of the playground, which is an evolving process on how to create an environment where we take artistic freedom fully into our own hands. We explore new directions while taking great musical risks. The four of us had to ‘learn to wait’ to rediscover our purpose and plans. Nils Henrik Asheim’s composition gave us the title of the first album release, which, as it turns out, is quite fitting after working behind the scenes and on stage to develop our new label, annual festival and playful identity.
There is one place where you can be sure to realize and experience the full potential of the string quartet, and that is if you play in one yourself! Being in the midst of the Oslo String Quartet, we tend to prefer a closeness in recorded sound (even though it can be terribly revealing…), since it encapsulates some of the thrill of performing those virtually countless masterpieces that we have at our disposal. With our new recording label, OSQ, we invite you into the intimate and exhilarating space of the string quartet.
The first album on the OSQ label, entitled 'Learn to Wait', will be released worldwide across all digital platforms on November 8th, 2024.

NRK Scenen
In June we spent a day in lovely Akershus Festning in Oslo recording for NRK (Norwegian broadcasting). The result was aired on NRK in early December and is now available here. Enjoy!
SonstadMusic
Our cellist and longtime arranger Øystein Sonstad has finally decided to start making some of his countless arrangements available for purchase. Many of these scores are tailor-made for the Oslo String Quartet, which is why we are proudly presenting his new online store, SonstadMusic, here. Head over to sonstad.myshopify.com and consider purchasing the very first item: West Side Story In a Nutshell.
If you would like to listen to the music then simply stream it on Spotify and Apple Music and many other places, as it is one of the tracks on the album Oslo Strykekvartett Faller Oppover by the Oslo String Quartet.
Unfortunate downsizing of our 30-year-anniversary celebration
Hurra!!
Kl 12 og kl 14 står Petter og Ulven med både trommer og cymbaler på menyen, og kl 17 inviterer vi et knippe unge lovende strykekvartetter til en stor kvartettfest!
Velkommen!
We have been looking forward! We have made big plans! We have been looking forward some more! BUT now we find ourselves forced to announce that the Oslo String Quartet's big 30th anniversary celebration 26-28. November unfortunately will be somewhat amputated due to an inconvenient arm injury. The planned anniversary concerts on Friday and Sunday have thus unfortunately been canceled.
BUT do not despair! Fortunately for everyone who is interested: On Saturday 27 November, all planned concerts will take place as planned! The venue is Marmorsalen hall at Sentralen in Oslo! Hurray!!
At 12:00 and 14:00 we serve Petter and the Wolf with drums and cymbals, and at 17:00 we invite a bunch of young promising string quartets to a big quartet party!
Welcome!
